HISTORY OF PASTOR GARY HOFMEYER AND HIS FAMILY
Pastor Gary grew up on a farm in Northwest Iowa. His father raised corn and soybeans as well as cattle. As a boy, all he wanted to be was a farmer, but God had other plans. The call to the ministry was something he felt since a young boy. He grew up in the Reformed Church of America, which is a denomination very much like the Presbyterian church with its roots in Holland Europe. He attended Northwestern College of Iowa, which is a Christian College, and Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, which is one of two seminaries sponsored by the Reformed Church in America. He served 3 congregations in Wisconsin and Florida before his call to Northwest Presbyterian Church in 2009.
His wife and he have two sons. His oldest son, Erik, and his wife, Lacey, live with their two dogs in Miami. Erik is a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves and is employed by Progress Energy. His other son, Mark, lives in Atlanta and is involved in the film industry. He has a very serious relationship with a young woman named Megan and the Hofmeyers are looking forward to another daughter-in-law in the family soon.
Dona, a math teacher in the Pinellas County School system for 34 years, is now retired and enjoys her involvement in the church. She is the prayer warrior in the family. The two of them enjoy their time together when they have time off, and particularly like getting out of the city and being in nature.
The Hofmeyers very much love Jesus Christ and are deeply influenced by the Reformation’s understanding of Scripture. They both have been influenced by the teaching of R. C. Sproul, and his teachings are used often in the ministry of church. He hopes to be used by God to help the people of Northwest take leadership in the church’s ministry and is very proud to be part of such a fine church.
